Among Italy’s most celebrated white wines, Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DOC has earned worldwide recognition for its crisp freshness, delicate aromas, and remarkable versatility. In 2024, wine professionals and enthusiasts in Vietnam were invited to explore this iconic appellation through “Pinot Grigio delle Venezie: Unlock Your Senses!”, an educational and experiential program organized by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (ICHAM) in collaboration with the Consorzio Pinot Grigio delle Venezie. The initiative aimed to deepen knowledge of one of Italy’s most successful wine denominations while strengthening connections between the Italian and Vietnamese wine communities.
An Educational Journey into Italian Wine
Rather than a traditional wine exhibition, Unlock Your Senses! was designed as a comprehensive learning experience for sommeliers, wine educators, importers, distributors, and hospitality professionals.
The program unfolded over four stages:
- Online educational training
- In-person masterclass and preliminary competition
- Grand Final in Ho Chi Minh City
- Exclusive wine pairing dinners in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi
More than 60 participants joined the program, combining professional education with practical tasting experiences that highlighted the unique identity of Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DOC.
Discovering the Character of Pinot Grigio delle Venezie
Produced across the historic Triveneto area in northeastern Italy, Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DOC is internationally admired for its elegant style and food-friendly character.
Participants explored the distinctive qualities that have made this wine one of Italy’s leading export categories, including:
- Bright citrus and green apple aromas
- Floral and delicate mineral notes
- Crisp acidity with refreshing balance
- Exceptional versatility with seafood, salads, and Mediterranean cuisine
- A refined style ideal for both casual and fine dining
The program also introduced attendees to the region’s history, production standards, and protected DOC designation, providing valuable insights into the heritage behind every bottle.
A Celebration of Knowledge and Excellence
One of the highlights of the initiative was the Pinot Grigio Knowledge Journey, where participants tested their understanding through educational sessions and competitions.
Following several rounds of training and assessment, Mr. Vo Van Phat was named the Pinot Grigio delle Venezie Brand Ambassador in Vietnam, reflecting the program’s commitment to developing wine education and professional expertise within Vietnam’s growing wine industry.
Wine Pairing: Bringing Italian Culture to the Table
The educational journey concluded with exclusive wine pairing dinners hosted in both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
Guests enjoyed authentic Italian cuisine thoughtfully paired with various expressions of Pinot Grigio delle Venezie under the guidance of Nazareno Vicenzi, representative of the Consortium, together with the newly appointed Brand Ambassador.
These dinners demonstrated how carefully selected food pairings can elevate the freshness, elegance, and versatility of Pinot Grigio, creating memorable dining experiences that celebrate Italian hospitality.
